Introduction

  1. HOW THIS ILLUSTRATED SOLOMON'S WISDOM

    1. This was a very serious problem: How could the true mother be found?
    2. The cunning of the human heart is here shown: Explain.
    3. Solomon's wisdom is proved by the perfect way in which he revealed the state of both women's hearts.
    4. The picture a very vivid one.
    5. TEXT: What a proof of a mother's love! How the other woman proves herself a liar!
LESSON: This wise experience shows up the state of the heart - and this is what matters most.
    Q. Do we have a good or bad heart?
  2. THIS IS WHY THE BIBLE ITSELF WAS GIVEN TO US: TO EXPOSE MEN'S HEARTS

    1. What matters is the state of our heart. Why?
ANSWER: Because the "heart" is the "real you".
ILLUSTRATION: People can put a "face" on it. This is impressive to us; but not to God.
    2. This means that, to God, outward things are not so important as the heart:
      1. education
      2. wealth
      3. popularity
APPLICATION: Don't seek these things first.
    3. To show that the heart is first in importance, remember:
      1. Samuel's experience (1 Samuel 16:7)
      2. Christ to the Pharisees
    4. LESSON: Nothing about you is so important to God as the state of your heart.
  3. THE BIBLE IS GOD'S WISE METHOD FOR EXPOSING OUR HEARTS AS THEY ARE

    1. We all have a good or wicked heart - the way we react to the Bible is the key: Questions to ponder:
      1. Do we acknowledge we are evil?
      2. Do we pray to God in secret for mercy?
      3. Do we see this life as our only hope to be saved?
      4. Do we long for Christ to speak peace to our soul?
    2. What evil people forget:
      1. you cannot fight God: Illustration: a lion
      2. you cannot deceive God
      3. you cannot escape from God
    3. The most terrible thought of all - that God would "blot us out of His Book (of Life)".
Illustration: The DELETE KEY IN HEAVEN

CONCLUSION

Don't provoke God but believe in Christ and be saved.
