Introduction
- How Paul quotes from OT
- He does so to show man's sinfulness
- In order to point to the Remedy
REL: Do you realise you need this Remedy?
IT IS A GREAT SIN NOT TO SEEK GOD
- People seek everything but not God:
- The honour of a king: Illustration: Wolsey
- The fame of a politician: Illustration: Burke
- Recognition as a scholar:
- The Bible shows this failure to seek God:
- Adam's sin + Eve's
- David's sin
- Judas' sin + of the Pharisees
- Pilate's sin also - alas!
- People seek everything but not God:
ALL THE MISERIES OF THIS WORLD CAN BE TRACED BACK TO THIS SIN:
- How can anyone be really happy without God?
- We were made for fellowship with Him.
- Our heart is made to be a temple
- Why do we not seek God?
- Sin has blinded us to His loveliness.
ILLUSTRATION: all the beauty in the world! - Pride makes men "stiff-necked" - the perfect description of us all:
ILLUSTRATION: Pharaoh / Rabshakeh / Belshazzar - People are afraid of God - guilty: ILLUSTRATION: Adam - his fear, guilt, shame.
- Sin has blinded us to His loveliness.
- The sinner is fascinated and bewitched by sin:
ILLUSTRATION: the moth & candle.
APPLICATION: Do you want me to tell you how you will end up if you neglect God? See Proverbs 1:22f
- How can anyone be really happy without God?
YOU WILL BE SAVED AND BLESSED AS SOON AS YOU SEEK GOD
- Why should you punish yourself? The answer to all problems is HERE: To seek God.
- There are examples of it in God's Word:
- Psalm 34:4-6
- Psalm 107:25-31
- Jacob and his fear of Esau (Genesis 32:24)
- Look at these PROMISES:
- "Seek and ye shall find".
- "Ye shall seek me...".
- "Turn ye...why will ye die?"
CONCLUSION
"Behold, he prayeth" (Paul)!
