Introduction
- The Flood was a great Judgement.
- Only 8 persons were saved.
- We have lessons to learn from it.
ONE CAUSE OF THE FLOOD: MIXED MARRIAGES
- The TWO families before the Flood
- The meaning of Genesis 6:1-2
- The 'giants' of Genesis 6:4
- The principle of marriage: 2 Corinthians 6:14
THE MAIN CAUSE: EXTREME LAWLESSNESS
- The breakdown of morals: v.5, 11-12
- God's "repentance" (Explain)
- How "it grieved God at his heart": v.7
APPLICATION: TV, books, etc.GOD'S PATIENCE MAY COME TO AN END
- See v.3: a period for repentance.
Proof that God's patience was ending: v.13 - This taught elsewhere: (i) Gen. 15:16 (ii) Sodom (Gen. 18:20-21)(iii) The nations of the past: Babylon, etc. (v) The Jews, 40 yrs after the Crucifixion: "His blood be on us..."
APPLICATION: Is this perhaps relevant to our nation?
- See v.3: a period for repentance.
THE EXTREME IMPORTANCE OF BEING GODLY
- v.8: "found grace" (Explain)
- v.18: God's "covenant":
- a promise of mercy
- strengthened by an oath
- guarantees eternal life
- to all who believe God's word
- for the sake of Christ - recall the words at the Last Supper re. the covenanted mercies of God.
THE SIGNS OF BEING IN GOD'S COVENANT
- That God deals in mercy with us
- That God teaches us by His word
- That we are different from the world
- That we obey God carefully - see v.22
Noah is an example of a godly man who lives by faith: See Hebrews 11:7
CONCLUSION
- All true Christians are so.
- Be obedient to God in all things.
- We too are preparing - for a great FIRE (2 Peter 3)
